FAQ
DOES THE FELLSATTEL HAVE A RIDER WEIGHT LIMIT?
No. However the Cob sized Fellsattel does have a limit recommendation of 70-80 kilos. This is why there is not an XL seat size in the Cob model. We also subscribe to the generally accepted rider:horse weight ration of 20% and under. So if your horse weighs 500 kilos, the rider and tack should not weigh more than 100 kilos. This is for a balanced rider, the ratio should be less for beginner riders.
CAN I RIDE LONG DISTANCES IN THE MATTES FELLSATTEL?
Yes you most certainly can! We have Endurance riders as Fellsattel customers. The unique internal flexible structure, which Mattes call a 'tunnel', allows for total spinal clearance for the horse. This means that you can ride in the Fellsattel for as long as you would consider riding in a treed saddle. There is no chance of stirrup bar pressure either as the closed stirrup D's are located on top of the tunnel. The Mattes Fellsattel is a popular choice for trail riders due to the above and that it offers much greater security when compared to an English saddle.
DO YOU OFFER TRIAL FELLSATTELS?
Yes we do! We currently have 2 Cob Fellsattels available for trial: Medium and Large. It is essential to send us your booking form so we can place you in the queue however as the demos are very busy. For more information and booking, go here.
IS THE FELLSATTEL SELF ADJUSTING TO THE HORSE?
Due to the flexible design and the horizontal angles of the Saddle Pad, the Fellsattel is able to adjust itself to the horses conformation—even in the shoulder and wither area. However, ultimately every horse is better off with the right sized Tunnel.
FELLSATTEL MODELS
Only the pad shape changes, the Fellsattel itself, remains exactly the same regardless of model chosen.
There are 6 English/Spanish pad models to choose from and 4 Western Pad models. It is important to know that the Western pads are 8 cm longer than the English and Spanish pads. The Cob Fellsattel is also 8 cm shorter than the Full Fellsattel. Both the Mattes English Leathers and Western Fenders, can be used on all models.
